Armond-

I really wish you wrote longer form essays on some the above films. I like what you've done hear at City Arts, but, I can't lie, I miss the higher volume of output you had at NY Press. Will you still be contributing reviews to their online edition?

She was a bitter misanthrope who had an ego the size of Jupiter. Of course, it is easy to attack her for her angry and over the top negative reviews (it was obvious that she grew to revile Kubrick's work only because she was a pathological contrarian), but it was the absurdly overblown appraisal she gave to films such as Last Tango and Bonnie and Clyde and most of the crap De Palma churned out that made her but a joke to anybody worth taking seriously. Of course, it must also be said that she was highly fraudulent and really seems to have avoided what should have been damning scandal in terms of favoritism and outright plagiarism (apparently most of her citizen kane essay was stolen).

I too would love to see a longer take on Take Shelter, which I seem to read differently from every review I've read so far. I think -- and I'm trying not to spoil things for those who haven't seen it yet -- that if you view the whole film as a metaphor for marriage and family and standing by one another in the face of an unavoidable crisis, then the end seems less absurd. In short: the end scene is the same as the opening scene, only not alone.

Disappointed that "Take Shelter" sounds "overwrought", but I'm interested in seeing Five Star Day, which sounds like my kind of movie: Spirituality and Humanism. Thank you

I saw a one man show called "Room 306" @ the 59 E59th Street Theater. It depicts the night before his assassination as does the mountaintop. It was powerful. I do not plan to see this version for 2 reasons. 1st I cannot for the life of me see Samuel Jackson play Martin Luther King; I have a sense that having a woman involved trivializes the man and the message. I saw Paul Winfield play him in a movie. He was fabulous.
