Return to a world in which stage actresses were treated like rock stars Feb. 9 with The Actress as Artist’s Muse: Sarah Bernhardt, Eleonora Duse, and Ellen Terry. The special lecture at the Gallery at Bard Graduate Center will find art historian Peter Trippi, editor of Fine Art Connoisseur and former director of Dahesh Museum of Art, discussing these three icons of the theater and the influence they exerted over the visual arts of the time. According to a press release, “transcending these divas’ representations in commercial advertising, fine artists cleverly inserted their costumes, poses, and facial expressions into works of “high” art exhibited at the Paris Salon, and London’s Royal Academy.”

Tickets for the event, which lasts from 6–8 p.m., are $15 for students and seniors, $20 for adults, and can be purchased at 212-501-3011. The Bard Graduate Center is located at 18 W. 86th St. For more information, visit www.bgc.bard.edu.
